‘Friday The 13th Game’ Patch Notes: Virtual Cabin And What Else Is New?

It’s not yet Friday, but fans of “Friday the 13th: The Game” will surely be thankful for the new update that’s rolling out today to the PC and PS4 versions of IllFonic’s multiplayer survival-horror game. The update apparently adds Virtual Cabin 2.0, a new playable counselor and many more perks.

On Monday, IllFonic announced via the game’s official website that the next major free update is coming to all platforms. Unfortunately for Xbox One players, they need to wait a bit more before they could get their hands on the 2.0 update. The developer said it will follow “shortly” on Microsoft’s console, but it did not provide a specific release date.

Virtual Cabin 2.0, like what its name suggests, is adding a new Virtual Cabin to the game. For PC players who followed the development of “Friday the 13th: The Game,” they may already have an idea as to what this expansion brings. IllFonic reportedly offered the Virtual Cabin to PC players while the game was still in development.

“The new Virtual Cabin is an expansion and complete overhaul of the original that we launched prior to release of the full game on PC,” IllFonic wrote. “For those unfamiliar, the Virtual Cabin is a combination museum to ‘Friday the 13th,’ and an interactive dev diary to the game! 2.0 is far larger in scope, not only with information and accessibility, but it includes far more than meets the eye if you start to explore.”

IllFonic also said that because Virtual Cabin 2.0 is a re-imagining, it has been upgraded to offer more interesting challenges to players. It’s also far more bigger than the original version, so the developer is encouraging players to do more in it so they could discover more. IllFonic went on to tease that the secret behind this expansion will be uncovered by “finding the key.”

Another interesting feature that Virtual Cabin 2.0 update adds to “Friday the 13th: The Game” is Shelly Finkelstein. She’s a new playable counselor, who unlike other counselors, is unlocked and playable from the outset. IllFonic did not forget about the other counselors as well. The developer is now offering new clothing options for Mitch, Fox and the others, as pointed out by GameSpot.

The new major update also enables offline gaming with bots. Players can choose from one and seven bots for the offline games, and they are also free to select from the three difficulty modes: Easy Normal or Hard. IllFonic warns that “the higher the difficulty you choose, the longer counselors will remember you being in the area, the more likely they are to fight you, the quicker they are to react to your presence.”

Community manager Daniel Nixon has also revealed why they chose to add offline gaming. “Maybe you hate playing online with people. Maybe you want to learn the lay of the land in all the maps. Maybe you just want to practice laying waste of scores of counselors,” Nixon said of the new feature.

Apart from the new update, IllFonic has also announced that a number of holiday events are taking place throughout the end of December and until early January. VG24/7 has learned that from Dec. 18–23, players will have an increased chance of rolling a rare or epic perk. From Dec. 23–27, it will be easier to locate Pamela and Jarvis tapes. Then, from Dec. 23 until Jan. 2, 2018, players will earn double CP from everything aside save for leveling up.

The Virtual Cabin 2.0 update for “Friday the 13th: The Game” is out now for Steam and PS4 users. No official word yet on the Xbox One release of the update.
